Can Games Please Start?
Alright, I’ll admit I am addicted to baseball. I probably check the websites for the Dodgers, MLB and ESPN ten times a day. I really want games to get going so there is something to discuss other than how some non-roster invitee handled run down drills, when will Manny and the Dodgers finally stop acting like a married couple and sign a contract or how many hundreds of millions did the Devil’s franchise spend on players this year.
I did find this story about Tommy Lasorda and A Rod interesting this morning. I will admit A Rod is one of the few people I never thought did steroids– along with my favorite Dodgers of the era. I guess if Tommy can be fooled I’m not a complete idiot. He is afterall the greatest baseball mind of our time!
Charlie Hustle Speaks Again
As always Pete Rose has decided he needs to comment on the baseball issue du jour– A-Rod and his use of performance enhancing drugs.
I first heard about this one on PTI tonight and then saw this article from USA Today.
All of this is somewhat hilarious to me. Here is Pete Rose, arguably one of the most disgraced Baseball Greats of all time, calling out another player for cheating. That really does take some guts. What is even funnier to me is that A Rod came out on his own and finally admitted he had been a liar for years, most notably during the Katie Couric interview in 2007. Rose admitted to everyone at the cost of $25 per book. Good ole Charlie Hustle always looking to make a dime!
So, what was Rose’s excuse to convince himself there was a difference?
“What I did has nothing to do with the statistics of the game,” Rose said. “One thing that separates baseball from [other sports] is the rich history with the statistics.
Sure Pete… Keep telling yourself that.
On the father side of this– I remember last year I was cleaning out my closet with my son and came across some old Jersies. It was just after the Mitchell Report had been released and my oldest son, now 9, started asking me about steroids and what they did to the players. I had to explain to him it was cheating and that those players hurt the game. The old jersies were for two of my favorite former Dodgers– Eric Gagne and Paul Lo Duca. I actually felt a little cheated by both of these men when I found those jersies. My son and I proceeded to throw them both away.
At the end of the day anyone who took performance enhancing drugs was a cheater and a horrible example for our children to follow.
